Two questions on Resource usage view

- Can I show the task path? The task summary field shows only the
parent node, but I want the entire path to know which task I'm looking
at
- Why is the priority field of the Gantt chart not available in the
Resource Usage view? When i do Add column, it is not in the list.

I'm using Project2007

Hi CBnation,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I'm not sure what you mean by task path. If you are referring to
predecessors, then no, as the Resource Usage view is only showing individual
assignments. This is also why the priority field is not available.
(Incidentally, the Priority field is only used by project when selecting
tasks during the levelling process - it has no other use.) For multiple
projects, You can, however, show the Project field to see in which project
the assignment lives.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Mike,

I believe Cedric means he wants to see the name of the Summary Task at each
Outline Level until you get down to his Task i.e. Summary Task - Summary
Task - Summary Task - Summary Task - Task. Using this, he would know the
context of the particular task he is dealing with in the Resource View.

Cedric,

I do not believe you are able to see the Task Path in the resource view.
Your best bet is to insert the "ID" column and use that to figure out the
context for each task.

[Julie] Not directly, no. The resource usage view contains resource
and assignment information. However, you could conceivably add a
text field to the Task Usage view, run a macro to populate the field
with the entire "parentage" of a task, roll it down to assignments
and then, through code (VBA) copy the data from the task assignment
field to the resource assignment field. To that end, Jack Dahlgren
has provided some sample code on his page that will add the full
path string to a text field. See Jack's "SummaryName" macro at:
http://masamiki.com/project/macros.htm

Before running Jack's macro, you'll need to make sure you set the
field (Text12) from the macro to automatically roll down through the
custom field property.

Once you've run Jack's "SummaryName" macro, see the sample code at
FAQ 37 at http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm.

[Julie] Because priority is a task field and the Resource Usage view
does not contain tasks, only resources and assignments.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
