Restart List Numbers

Is there a way other than using a macro or VBA to stop list renumbering
themselves everytimg the styles get refreshed or updated.

In my document, I have 3 main heading (Heading1, Heading 2, Heading 3)

Under every Heading 3, I have a simple 'numbered' list (i, ii, iii, etc)

I have approx. 20 of these lists and each one must have the numbering
restarted so that I can reference to them in a later document e.g. 3.1.2 iv

Everytime I update a style in my document or change any formatting, the
lists are change to continued numbering as if they were one complete list.

How do I stop the lists automatically renumbering and remain at 'restart
numbering' after each Heading3.

Thanks very much,

F

If you *modify* the styles, via the Modify Style dialog box, rather than
updating them to match the selection, the restarts should be preserved.

However, since you want your numbered lists to restart after each Heading 3,
just add the numbered style to the same outline list as your headings. For
example, replace Heading 4 with your custom style.
