right and bottom scroll bars have disappeared in Word 2008 Mac

The right and bottom scroll bars have disappeared from my Word documents.
All other information in the bottom bar is also missing. The condition has
existed for at least the last 48 hours. It affects both new documents and
documents created before I first noticed the condition.

I have Word 2008 Mac v 12.0.0 and installed the security update last week.
The change post-dates the security update but I don't know if it was
coincident.

I have Quit Word and relaunched & Restarted my mac both with no effect.

The square button bottom right of the window that enables me to change the
window size is there. The document runs to the bottom of the window -- and
to the right edge if I make it narrow enough.

I can find nothing in "help" that helps.

This is not a problem in either Powerpoint or Excel 2008.

I am running Office 2008 for Mac on a MacBook Pro 15"

Have you checked in Word | Preferences | View to make sure both scroll
bars are turned on? And it sounds like the status bar may be turned off
as well.
