Rotate or flip

P

Phil

Hi,

Using Word 2000 when I insert a picture I can't Rotate or
Flip the picture. When I click on the picture and then
on 'Draw' and then on 'Rotate or Flip', none of the
options are available. What do I need to do to get these
options?

Thanks,
Phil

Hi Andre,

There are no icons for rotate or flip on my picture
toolbar. I can customize the tool bar and add the flip
and rotate icons from the drawing opion, but when I close
the "tool bar add buttons" option the icons I added are
once again not highlighted as an option.

I'm missing something somewhere...............

Assuming you are referring to clip art -- and not photographic images....
do the following:

1) double click the image (opens the format dialog box)
2) set layout to square (or anything other than in line with text)
3) close format object dialog box
4) right click over image -- and select GROUPING---> UNGROUP
5) click Draw on the drawing toolbar... and click GROUP

I don't know why -- but it works -- now you should be able to rotate and/or
flip!

Good Luck!

In Word 2000 and above, graphics are by default inserted "In Line with
Text." In order to be able to rotate or flip them, you must first put them
in the drawing layer. Click on the graphic to display the Drawing toolbar,
then click on the Text Wrapping button (dog icon) and choose a different
wrapping style. Then you should be able to rotate/flip. For more, see

Click on the image or picture, the "Picture" Toolbar should appear. There
are a number of options listed. Hover each icon to see what each icon does.
Their should be an option for "rotate or flip".

Remember to click on the image first be attempting to "Rotate or Flip" it.
The icons will then be high lighted. If the picture is not enabled, meaning
you did not click it before then the icons on the "Picture" Tool bar will be
grayed out.

Hi again,

I'm using Word 2000. Yes, I do click on the picture
first and the icons do not become active. Also there is
no object attached to the picture when I click on it.
It's like there is no rotate/flip option with the version
I'm using. If it helps I have version 9.0.4402 SR-1.
Thanks again... Any more ideas?

Thanks,
Phil

Andre, no rotation is possible for inline objects, which is what Phil is
dealing with here. The rotation handle becomes available when the graphic is
wrapped.

Did you click the picture first? If you click it first, the icons should
then become active. It really depends on the version of Word you are using.
Yes you can customize the toolbar and add specific icons to it.

If you are using Word 97 to 2000, there should be a small object attached to
the picture when you click it, this feature is for rotating the image, its
green. Hover over it and see what happens to your mouse.

Thanks Suzanne,

I'm not working with a clip art, it's a picture that I
inserted using "Insert"/"picture"/'from file". I tried
changing the the text wrapping before, along with
everything else I could think of. Nothing seems to work.
Can you rotate a "Picture" (.gif) file that is inserted
into word using the insert/picture/from-file?

Thanks,
Phil

Arrggh, sorry. That article doesn't tell what I thought it did. But the
instructions I gave will work for all graphics if the version of Word
supports it. I'm pretty sure you can do this in Word 2000; I know you can do
it in Word 2002 and above.

In 2000 --- I could not get Word to allow me to rotate/flip a GIF image.
BUT....

I copied the image to MS Paint.... did my rotate / flip there... and then
copied it back to Word..... and it seemed to work just find. You should
be able to find MS Paint on your Accessories menu.

Try that.... I think it should do the trick!

Hi Suzanne,
I'm pretty sure you can do this in Word 2000
Nope :) New in Word 2002; a lot of the graphics stuff was
re-worked for that version.
