Still getting 2755 error on Office 2000 install in XP

I've been getting a 2755 error while trying to install Office 2000
under XP Pro. I found Knowledge Base article 217714 and given full
control to every group available, but I'm still getting these errors.
Looking at the verbose logs that setup generates, it looks exactly
like the problem the above article is supposed to solve, but it's not.

Is there some type of cleanup that needs to be done before trying to
continue the office install after getting the error and correcting the
permissions?

Is there anything else that can be done? Would the problem go away if
I buy Office XP?

Help greatly appreciated.
