Task Usage view

ks2008

Hi Please review the question, the correct answer to this question is option 2.

Here is my confusion.
How come "Task Usage view" is correct answer ?
Because as it stated in the question, I don't see graph, bars, etc. It is
just a text table.
Could someone help me to understand this question ?
thanks
KS

Question:
=========
You need to display a graph that shows information about your resources over
a period of time. You want to be able to change the gridlines on the graph
and modify the appearance of individual bars and text. You are specifically
interested in resource allocation and cost. What view should you choose?

1. Add a Note Here Gantt Chart view
2. Add a Note Here Task Usage view
3. Add a Note Here Resource Graph view
4. Add a Note Here Calendar view

Let's see if we can deconstruct this:

1) "Display a graph" - not the Calendar view.
2) "Modify individual bars and text" - not the Resource Graph view. There,
you can modify columns (not bars, I suppose), but not really add text.
3) "Resource Allocation and Cost" - usually implies a Usage View (although
technically, you could do the same with the Gantt Chart as well.)

So either the Gantt Chart or the Task Usage view are technically correct,
but the Task Uage view is better at looking at allocation, and thus is slightly
more correct.

I think the correct answer should be "3. Resource Graph view" since the
question keeps on asking about graph. I have come across a similar question
and the right answer is "Resource Graph view". Right now I cannot find the
question. Once I find it, I will post it again.
Besides, where did you see this question?

All,
Thanks for all your response. I am still little confused, any way
FYI. This question is from
"Chapter 2 - Project Planning
MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit: Managing Projects with Microsoft Office
Project 2007 (Exam 70-632)"

thanks

I have found the question (Page 204) in the book (same title as you
mentioned), the answer in this book is "Resource Graph View" (page 480).

From this user's description, I think there are a number of bad questions in
this book. :(

Dale,
I guessed you did not use the book preparing your test. It has quite a few
printing errors, too. Thank you for writing that there is no poor written
questions as I have been worried about that. Could you please share how you
prepared for the test?
Thanks for all the help!

In case Dale doesn't want to say, he probably didn't prepare and nor does he
need to. Many years of using, training and writing about Project is all the
preparation you need!!

The exam is designed to pass people who use Project regularly to schedule
live projects. Ignoring the effectiveness of exams like this, if you are not
a solid user of Microsoft Project already, then you do need to buy and read
a book or take courses and then use to for a while (dependant on your
ability to learn).

Good luck!

I did not need to prepare for the exam. Instead, I was the co-author of the
book, "Ultimate Learning Guide to Microsoft Office Project 2007." This book
offers 2 self-study courses that you can complete to master the proper use
of Microsoft Project 2007. The Foundations course comprises the first 12
chapters, which teaches you beginning through intermediate level skills on
using the software properly by following the normal project management life
cycle. The last 10 chapters comprise the Advanced course, which allows you
to dig much deeper into how the software works, and how to use advanced
features to manage your projects. So, to prepare for the test, I helped to
write a book on the subject! If you are interested in purchasing this book,
by the way, you can find it at:

http://projectserverbooks.com/books/ultimatelearningproject2007.aspx

If you complete both of the courses in this book, you will not only be
prepared to take the certification exam (and pass it with a high score), but
you will also know how to use Microsoft Project 2007 very well to manage
your own projects. Hope this helps.
