The account information for MS Project Server WSS Admin COM+

R

Riccardo

Hello, i've installed on my machine Windows Server 2003, WSS 2.0, Sql
Server 2005, Project 2003 with Project Server 2003. All works
perfectly, but when i enter in PWA and choose "Manage Windows
SharePoint Services" i get this error:

"The account information for the Microsoft Office Projetc Server WSS
Admin COM+ application in incorrect.
To set the account information, run the PSCOMPlus tool installed with
Project Server, and set the Windows account that the component should
run as."

I launch the pscom+ tool, then i enter the login and i save the option
in the pwa page. AFter saving i restart ,But the error prompts again.

I can tell that :
-my WSS admin control is http://media-server:4188,
-PWA --> http://media-server/ProjectServer
I can access WSS and PWA with the same windows login
media-server\administrator. The problem is that i can't connect to
sharepoint server.

Ps: Sorry for my english.

Hi Riccardo,
u can follow the following steps to connect with MS SharePoint 2.0,

1- Make sure that the SharePoint Central Administration URL is correct.
As it must be
http://<ServerName>:<PortNumber>
[You can get the port number as follows: Start .. Administrative Tools
... Internet Information Services Management ... On the left pane,
Expand the tree until you reach your Server. Under your Server, you
will find Default Website. Right click on it and click properties. on
the properties page appeared write down the number in TCP Port]. Go
back to Project Web Access and type the URL mentioned above correctly
with the Port number. Click, Test URL to make sure its working.
2- On the folder you have installed Project Server 2003, find the Path
[ \BIN\1033 ] ... you will find a file called [PSComPlus.exe] ... Run
this program. [Note: This program is to set permission on the COM+
Component that Project Server use] ... When you the program is open,
clear the checkbox of Analysis Services (OLAP) Access Identity and keep
the other one. Now in the Windows SharePoint Services Administration
Identity, type a username and password of a User with (local
Administration privileges on the server that holds Windows SharePoint
Services). Now click on [Create/Update COM+ Apps]. If it's
successfully done, close the program.
3- Now put the Project Server 2003 in the machine that holds Project
Server 2003. When the wizard starts, Click on Microsoft Windows
SharePoint Services. Now click Windows SharePoint Services
Configuration Wizard. A new wizard will start. (By the way, this wizard
is the [wsswiz.exe]). Go with the wizard and when finishes click
Finish.
Now go back to the Project Web Access 2003 ... Click Admin.. Manage
SharePoint Services... Now Click Save Changes!

Finally, let me know if it worked or not,
I hope it help.

Thanks for the help. Here what i've done:

- i run pscom+ tool and insert the Local login administrator.
- after that i reboot the machine for the changes,
- i enter the pwa "manage windows sharepoint services" page and i put
the wss admin control page (that i tested and it worked) and the url
for public docs
- i launch the wizard from the project server cd, choose the WSS
configuration wizard --> "Configure additional WSS web sites" option
--> next next until finish the wizard
- finally i go to pwa admin and save the changes.

Sorry for that, but the error is here again.
I don't understand where is my fault ...

Hi,
i think u've to reconigure the PSCom+ Utility, here are the steps but
dont apply this resolution on aproduction server,
NOTE: u must know the username and password of both WSS & OLAP
administrators
1. From the Project Server, click Start --> Programs --> Administrative
--> Tools --> Component Services
2. At the Component Services console, expand to Component Services -->
Computers --> My Computer --> COM+ Applications. This will display the
following applications:
Microsoft Office Project Server OLAP Cube Component
Microsoft Office Project Server WSS Admin Component
3. Minimize the Component Services console.
4. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Project Server 2003\BIN\1033 and run
PSCOMPlus.exe
5. In the Microsoft Office Project Server COM+ Settings application,
verify that "Process this identity update" is selected for both
services and click "Delete All COM+ Apps".
6. Maximize the Component Services console and press F5 to refresh.
Notice the Project Server COM+ Applications have been removed.
7. Minimize the Component Services console.
8. From Windows Explorer, run PSCOMPlus.exe again.
9. In the Microsoft Office Project Server COM+ Settings application,
verify that "Process this identity update" is selected and type the
Username* and Password for each service and click "Create/Update COM+
Apps".

*NOTE: Username must be in the format of <DomainName\UserName> or
<ComputerName\UserName>

10. Maximize the Component Services console and press F5 to refresh.
Notice the Project Server COM+ Applications have been recreated.
11. Right click Microsoft Office Project Server WSS Admin Component and
click Properties.
12. In the Microsoft...WSS Admin Component Properties dialog box, click
Identity tab and verify the Username is the same that was typed in the
PSComPlus Utility.
13. Complete Steps 11-12 for the Microsoft Office Project Server OLAP
Cube Component.
14. Close the Component Services console.

i hope it help.
let me know what u found out.

Before posting what i've done i've few questions Abobakr:
- can i connect to WSS from PWA, creating ONLY the wss com+
application? I've never created a olap com+ application 'cause i don't
think it's necessary for connecting wss. I hope i'm not wrong.
- can i run wss2.0 and project server on the same machine?
My data are:
local admin is media-server\administrator, and he has access in wss
and Project Server
WSS central admin is http://media-server:4188
WSS home page is http://media-server
PWA home is http://media-server/ProjectServer
my public docs are in
http://media-server/sites/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments
They all work perfectly.

Here you are the steps i've done:
- i reset the com+ application and created only the wss com+
- then i reboot the server
- after rebooting i go to PWA "Manage windows sharepoint services", i
enter the url for the wss admin page and the url for my pub docs. I
test the urls and they worked well. I launch the wss wizard for Project
Server and save changes in PWA.
- after i click the save changes option the page prompts again the
error for the bad login.

I dunno, it's strange, 'cause the login is correct...

Sorry for being late, Riccardo

about your first question, the answer is yes, you can connect to WSS
from PWA by creating only WSS COM+ application, if u dont use Portfolio
Analyzer in your business, u dont have to create an OLAP COm+
application.
for your second question, yes, u can install WSS and Project Server at
the same machine and it works well because i did it.
Now, i still think that it's a COM+ problem, just be sure that u enter
the WSS administrator account, if it doesnt work, u have to follow the
steps in my second post, and i'll search about your problem.
Thanks, and sorry for being late.
I hope it help.

Hi again and thanks for the reply.
I tried more & more with the pscom+ tool, but..it doesn't work and
the error is always the same about the bad login.
My local admin is the WSS admin & the PS admin too.
If you want more info about my configuration, please tell me
and I'll post here.

Regards

Riccardo

I try to give a general explain of my configuration, 'cause I think
that my error is in the users.

I have two users for sql server 2000, the default MSProjectServerUser
and MSProjectUser that can access
the database ProjectUser used by Project Server. All is perfect and
works.

Then i've installed WSS 2.0 and extended the virtual server. So, i can
enter the admin control page
at http://mediaserver:9567, and i create a team site at
http://mediaserver/default.aspx. The WSS admin account, i think,
is the windows account mediaserver\administrator, or am i wrong? If i
watch in the "Manage your server" page, i can
see that my computer name is mediaserver, so, if i'm not wrong, the
account logged in is mediaserver\administrator.
I'm sure of that because i login in windows server with
mediaserver\administrator.

Finally, after the WSS wizard, i've installed project server. The PWA
is http://mediaserver/ProjectServer, and my public
docs is http://mediaserver/sites/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments. The
URLs works great, without any problems.
For entering PWA i use the windows user mediaserver\administrator with
the windows authentication.

When i launch the pscom+ tool, i enter only the wss user, that is
mediaserver\administrator. But nothing, it doesn't work.
I hope it can help.

HI Riccardo,
Really, i dont know the real cause of your problem but it may be a
result of using the same account for logging in WSS & PWA (mediaserver/
administrator).
