There's something I still don't get about Groove!

Hi,

I honestly haven't been able find the answer to this from any other sources,
and I'd really appreciate your help.

I have 2 computers that I want to connect into a Groove workspace. They are
not on the same LAN but several miles apart so require an internet access or
internet with VPN.

The obvious choice is to buy two Live Groove 2007 subscriptions installing
one on each client.

However, I have an Office Groove 2007 license that I'm wondering what to do
with.

Does the Office Groove 2007 licensed client still connect to the microsoft
hosted Relay service and thus give me access to my Groove Live 2007 licensed
client?

I suppose what I'm getting at is whether the microsoft hosted Relay service
is only available to Groove Live 2007 subscribers.

Thanks for your attention,

Hi Mark,

Your question :
Does the Office Groove 2007 licensed client still connect to the
microsoft hosted Relay service and thus give me access to my Groove Live
2007 licensed client?

Answer :
Office Groove 2007 and Groove Live 2007 are the same product, except for
the product licensing.
They communicate without any problem. You should be able to install
your Groove account on both machines.
In order to do so, save your Groove account on PC1 as a file (menu:
options/preferences/account save account as file) and inject the
account on PC2.

Beware of firewalls, and the NOD 32 antivirus software. They need to be
configured properly, as otherwise they might block Groove communications.

FYI, I don't agree with your "obvious choice" :)
A regular Office Groove 2007 license should normally allow you to
install Groove on 2 PCs for 1 single user (1 laptop + 1 desktop PC).
Different from the Groove Live licenses, the regular Groove license is
not limited to one year only.

Note that a Groove Live license only allows you to install Groove once.

Hi again, I appreciate your answer Jan, and Mark Smith's, but now I'm really
confounded.

I installed Office Groove 2007 on the two computers that I want to use for
collaboration. The problem is, that since going from the 'Groove Live' trial
to the Office Groove Version, I can't get them to synchronise at all when one
is offline.

The nice thing about Groove Live is that I could have the left the computer
that I wanted to sync to switched off, and my other computer would still
synchronise to it, presumably because the files to be synce'd had been
ferried to a microsoft server.

This is no longer working and I've checked the firewall settings, I wonder
what to do now? Please help me sort this out, it would be very much
appreciated,

regards

Mark

Hi Mark,

I noticed problems synchronizing as well during the last few days.
Probably a problem with Microsoft's relay servers.

Things seem to be back to normal now. Do you still have the
synchronization issues as described in your message ?

Note that Groove 2007 uses Microsoft's public relay servers, just like
Live Groove. There's no difference from a technical point of view.

Best regards,
