Troubleshooting Project Server 2007 Cube Building

Angie

I'm running Project Server 2007 SP1 connecting to a separate SQL 2005 server.
I've done every step in the following document
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197552.aspx
and client & IE setting changes suggested.

However, I continue to get the following error message when building the
cube from PWA.
===== Initiating cube build process =====
[3/25/2008 3:33 PM] Cube build request message has been added to the Project
Server queue
===== Verifying and running pre-build server event handler =====
[3/25/2008 3:35 PM] Verifying and running pre-build server event handler
===== Determining database and cube structure =====
[3/25/2008 3:35 PM] Cube build initialization started
[3/25/2008 3:35 PM] OLAP database and cube structure was determined
successfully
===== Building database and cubes =====
[3/25/2008 3:35 PM] Cube build session started
[3/25/2008 3:35 PM] Analysis Services session started
[3/25/2008 3:35 PM] Analysis Services session failed with the following
error: Failed to connect to the Analysis Services server PROJSQLDEV\PROJDEV.
Error: File not found
===== Process Completed =====
[3/25/2008 3:35 PM] Failed to build the OLAP cubes. Error: Analysis Services
session failed with the following error: Failed to connect to the Analysis
Services server PROJSQLDEV\PROJDEV. Error: File not found

Can anyone help?

I could write a book on this....
This is normally down to a permissions and services issue.

It appears you have an instance of SQL, you need to make sure the SQL
browser is running on your AS server.
Check the perms on the cube repository - set it up again via option 2 if
necessary.
Restart the AS services.
Restart the PS services.

Try again.

Failing everything re-boot both servers. It has the effect of restarting
the services again. Make sure DSO etc is running on the PS machine.

Ben:

Truer words have never been spoken. It amazed me that the OLAP configuration
for SQL 20056 took as many pages to write as the entire base installation.
Miss one little step and you're cooked.

Thank you Ben and Gary for the notes and encouragement.
However, I've re-traced my steps and still ended up with the same error....
"Analysis Service Server <server name>. Error: File not found"
What file is it looking for?
I'll take any and all help!

Which file, it'll either be the AS repository or the actual AS database.
Either way, the project server cannot communicate with the AS Services. If
everything is set up correctly, it could be down to permissions. If you can,
check this from the project server with a user who has domain admin perms...
If it works, you've got the infrastructure correct but have a perms issue.
If it doesn't work, you have an infrastructure problem.

HTH.
