unexplainable behavior by Project 2007

Hello. I am having a strange problem with MS Project 2007 stand alone
version. I am doing the following

1. Open a project plan in a PC with Project 2007 Version 12.0.4518.1014 MSO
12.0.6320.5000. The plan opens fine. I add a new task in between other
existing taks and none of the other tasks schedule is impacted as expected as
I have not established any links between new and existing tasks

2. Now I do the same in a different PC which has Project 2007 Version
12.0.6423.1000 MSO 12.0.6525.1000. The plan opens fine. I add a new task in
between other exisitng tasks and suddenly the schedule is changed impacting
all the tasks. This happens even if the newly added tasks is not linked to
any task and even if the new task is a milestone. The same scheduling issues
appear even if I just add a resource without allocating that resource to any
task.

Is this any particular version or patch issue? or is it something I need to
change in default setting?
Any help is appreciated as I am not able to use this plan on my PC and is
impacting my planning activities.

Thanks
Ravi

In what way is the schedule changed. What is the exact difference?

Under Tools, Options, Schedule Tab is the option Autolink inserted or moved
tasks. If this is selected newly inserted tasks get linked which will change
your schedule.

Rod thanks for the reply. Sorry if I was not clear enough in the original post

Here is what happens:

The dates of the tasks - following the new task - changes and pushes out the
finish date anywhere between 4 days to 2 months. In one instance when I added
a zero day milestone task, it moved the finish date by 4 days. Strange thing
is, without adding any new task and just by adding a resource to the resource
sheet (no assignment of this resource to any task) is having similar behavior
of moving dates out by 4 days to 2 months.

I have tried checking and un-checking the Autolink option you indicated.
There is no impact of this feature on the behavior.

That behavior is a bit extreme. If you copy all tasks to a new file, does it
still happen? If it doesn't you may well have a file corruption. Do you have
any links between files?

I'm not sure you have the latest version there, so make sure you install
SP2.

Rod, thanks for the suggestions. It did not work but in the process of trying
it out, it occurred that it could be related to resource leveling. The option
set was Auto Level. Changed to Manual and was able to handle the situation
without the below mentioned issue. Should the leveling be Auto or Manual is a
different issue and at this point in time, it will not bother me.

Thanks for your time
