Upgrade from Office Professional 2000 to 2007

Have a dilemma. Have been running office 2000 professional with Windows XP
however PC contracted a virus and died. Just purchased a new laptop which
came with Vista. Before I open the sealed Office Small Business 2007 UPGRADE
pack just want to check how I go about installing. Do I have to load the
Office 2000 onto the laptop, will this load with Vista or do I also need to
load XP (can this be done ?). Not sure of how to get around loading the
upgrade without loading the previous version... aagghhh... Advice would be
appreciated.

Hi Natalie,

You don't need to install Office 2000 (though you can if you want to).

Office '07 should prompt you for the location of the previous version, at which point you should be able to insert the Office 2000
CD and tell the installer to look on the CD drive.

Alternatively, you could simply copy the Office 2000 CD's files to a folder on the laptop's HDD and tell the Office '07 installer to
look in that folder.

Please ensure any Office Trial version that may have come with your new
laptop is uninstalled *first* together with its activation assistant, before
you install your version

Appreciate the replies. Installation worked well and we're up and running.
Had been advised by software retailer that it could not be done... I realise
they are only interested in selling products but the difference in price
between the upgrade and the first time pack is a major cost inhibitor...
Software is becoming more expensive than the hardware..
