UPGRADING TO VOLUME LICENSE VERSION

For the past month I have been using the trial version of OneNote, and I've
fallen for it hard. I now use it constantly to take notes on just about
everything.

I work in state government, and arranged to purchase OneNote, using our
state's volume license agreement. When I called Microsoft to get my product
key I was told that the trial version I have been using would not accept the
product key. I would have to reinstall OneNote using the media I will soon
receive from Microsoft.

I've managed to accumulate a very impressive amount of data in the one month
I've been using OneNote, and I'm terrified I will lose it. What's the best
way to protect that information when I reinstall OneNote. Will it remain
unharmed during the installation process? Is there a "backup" procedure I'm
not aware of?

Look forward to receiving your thoughts. Thanks.

The "My Notebook" folder in "My Documents" contains all notes from OneNote. I
Copy this folder to offline media once a week for backup purposes.

You should be fine - the reinstall shouldn't touch the data files. If you'd
like some peace of mind, however, you might make a backup copy of your "My
Notebook" folder which you should find in "My Documents". That contains all
your OneNote data (unless you've saved some to other locations manually).
