Using Cached Exchange Mode

Hi:

I am using Outlook 2007 with Exchange. I was (unwisely) downloading
mails from the server to a PST file. I was using cached exchange mode
so there was also an .ost file. But if I looked in my Exchange server
inbox in outlook it was always empty.

I decided I wanted to leave the emails on the server. I changed the
default PST file to the .ost file, (as my other POP3 account deliver
to other PST files). That way the Exchange emails should sync.

What happened however is they got downloaded somewhere but don't show
up in Outlook (I could see them dissappear from my iPHone, so removed
from the server). They must have gone into the .ost file, which you
can't open in Outlook.

My question is--does the IT guy need to set this up in Exchange, so my
messages stay on the server? Why did it behave like it did--if I am
using Cached exchange mode and the default delivery is to the .ost--
should the emails show up in Outlook in my Exchange Inbox?

Thanks,
Kayda
