Erik's suggestion sounds like it would work very well on a system with fully
integrated Outlook. As "feejo" points out below, everyone doesn't use Outlook
while OneNote tags and such are great the program (as far as I can tell) has
no built-in calendar or task function which may be a deal-breaker for some
folks.
While I'm waiting for my MS Office suite to arrive I've been primarily using
GoBinder and have found it to be an effective and somewhat easier to use
alternative to OneNote. GoBinder is more like a digital day-planner and may
better suit your needs if you'd like to have a daily, weekly, and monthly
view of your diary-like journal entries.
I'm not bad-mouthing OneNote and may feel differently after I install the
complete MS Office software and spend a little more time with it but in the
meantime, I prefer GoBinder with its proprietary calendar, task, and
"notebook" integration.

If you need just a place to dump a log of activities performed, or a true
"Dear diary, today I did..." personal journal, OneNote can do this task.
You can manually create a structure to support this [1], or use the journal
powertoy.
I do this for my daily work journal; as I do tasks, I record them in my
work journal Notebook, and use Tags to categorize them if I need to follow
up on something or to help generate a progress report, etc.
[1] for example, create a new Notebook called Journal, a new Section in
that Notebook for each month, and a new Page in each Section for each day.
Anyone have success using onenote for a diary? I know about the daily
journal powertoy, but I was curious if anybody is using onenote for
their daily dairy or are using another program.
I ask because I want to start one and I'm unsure if I need to go and
buy a diary software program or use OneNote 2007.
Thanks
