What is 'Summary Progress' and how does it differ from % Complete?

When I use the Tracking Gantt view with the Summary Progress bar displayed, I
get much different results with that bar when I use Summary Progress as the
'To' value vs. % Complete. I understand the % Complete, but when using
Summary Progress the bar is generally much shorter and doesn't reflect what I
understand as the "real" progress for each summary task.

Hi RAC,

If I understand your question properly, the Summary Progress bar shows a
graphical representation of work completed vs. work scheduled for the tasks
beneath that summary task. In plain terms, I use that bar to tell me
whether I have any overdue uncompleted work. If so, then the summary
progress bar shows a date in the past. After I've rescheduled all
uncompleted work to the future, then the summary progress bar shows progress
up to the date when the uncompleted work is due to begin.

Hi Crook - Thanks for the response. According to your explanation of
Summary Progress, my summary progress bars aren't displaying accurately. For
example, I have a high-level summary task with several lower-level summary
tasks under it. All are complete except for just one with a start of 6/11,
yet the high-level task Summary Progress date is showing as 5/5 on the
Tracking Gantt. I would think that date should be 6/11?
