Whats the difference between Project and Visio?

As I understand the product overviews from the microsoft website, Visio would
be used to explain what is intended with Project. Right? In other words, a
creation made using Project would be explained to those connected with it by
using the diagrams and explaination features of Visio. Right?

Do they go hand-in-hand like this, and/or by themselves are they fine
independent applications?

Hi,

In my opinion they are two completely independent applications each with a
different objective.
Project calculates dates and resource loads (Project plan data) and it has
some specific views to study those.
Visio is a general purpose drawing application.
Of course Visio being general purpose, it may also display Project data,
probably nicer than Project itself does but in my 15 year experience of
working with Project I never felt the need for that.
Hope this helps,
