Where does Office2008-1220UpdateEN.dmg download to/get stored - just downloaded and had to reboot and cannot locate the file?

Many thanks.

In Mac OS X 10.5, files downloaded via Safari are stored in the Downloads
folder (which you can find in your user folder). Another possible location
is the desktop.

Hi Michel

Thanks for the reply - we are aware of where safari/FireFox etc downloads files - what I was trying to communicate was that the dmg file was nowhere to be found after downloading it.

What had happened was that the installer reported that it could not find Office 2008 on the machine, so we re-booted because there was MS advisory about this problem which suggested re-bootng and trying again to install the update

Having re-booted - the dmg could not be found in Finder or Spotlight - but it is no biggie - thanks for your help

Major browsers today allow you to open a Downloads window to allow you
to watch the progress of your downloads. By default, they retain a
history of your downloads and you can often click an icon, double-click
or right-click to reveal the file in the Finder.

Hope this helps!

The Microsoft AutoUpdater stores the file in a temp folder and it's
automatically deleted.

After you download the update you'll find it by following this path:

Youruserfolder/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/16807Office 2008 12.2.0 Update
The Temporary in TemporaryItems should give you a clue as to what happens.
When you quit the Installer application, the update package vanishes as it
was intended for temporary use only.

If you want to keep the installer, you can download via Mactopia and
download the update directly. Alternatively you can, of course, pull a copy
from the TemporaryItems folder before it's vaporized.

Thanks for the replies - Diane's reply confirms my hunch that the installer removes the package on an aborted install.
Of course, the real problem I have is that the installer cannot find Office 2008, although it always has found it on previous updates.

Did you perhaps run something like monolingual since then? See this article
to verify if your Office Files were modified.

Diane

Have not run monolingual and all plugins/proj contents are present in the appropriate folders.

No Office files modified.

But thanks for the help anyway :)
