10/22 keeps changing to 22-Oct

I want to put 10/22 which is a gun, but it keeps changing it to 22-Oct, I have changed the format to number but it keeps changing it to the date. How do I get it to keep the 10/22 that I want?

If you want to write 10/22 as text then put an apostrophe before it to tell Excel to keep it text. So, type '10/22 in the cell.

Another way to do it (although Amy's is the easiest) is to format the cell as text before you enter 10/22.
