After upgrading to 10.5.4 on a MacBook Core 2 Duo a customer of mine can no longer open any office app with the latest Office 12.1.1 update (autoupdate can not find any more updates). She gets an error asking me to report, which she has, but still can't open office. Help .... Anyone else with the same issue. The last 2 lines in the error report are to do with other languages...

In the future, archive (zip) the Office folder before updating. You can
always easily revert to the zipped copy.

You need to determine if the problem is your Identity, your User folder or
the base system files. You can quickly tell if it's in your User's folder by
creating a new User in System Preferences.

I have a related problem.

I'm running Office 2008 v. 12.0.1 with Mac OS 10.5.4 and have downloaded update 12.1.1. It refuses to do the update, however, because it "requires OS 10.4.9 or later"!!!!.

Hope someone can help!

Seems this has come up only a couple of times and right now I can't find the
exact fix. This should work, but you could try creating a new User in System
Preferences and see if the updater works from there first.

1. Quit all applications (Easy way: log out/in with Shift key down to
disable any startup items.)
2. Drag the Microsoft Office 2008 folder to the Trash.
3. Empty Trash.
4. Reinstall Office 2008 from your original installation disk. (see below
for details***)
5. Restart
6. Update to 12.1.0 (SP1)**
7. Restart
8. Update to 12.1.1
9. Restart
10. Run Repair Permissions from Disk Utility.

** Be sure you have logged in with Shift key down to disable all startup
items. Quit all applications before updating.

***After installing from the original install disk, the AutoUpdater will
want to update itself. Let it update. When you see the AutoUpdater in the
Dock, select to "keep in Dock" for the install process. Do not update
further. Restart then run the AutoUpdater to let it install SP1. Restart
then use your installer for 12.1.1. Restart.

I ran this past the developer and he asks,

<quote>
can you send me the system profile from this machine?</quote>

Click About this Mac under the Apple in the Menu bar. The "More Info" button
launches the Apple system profiler. Select "Save As" then send me the report
off list.

Send me an email:

Thanks!!

Did you get the profile I sent you a week ago?

Yes, and I forwarded it on. He's away on vacation and I'll get back as soon
as I hear something. You can always contact me off list if you find any
further details to add.

Hi Jimper -

Just a couple of points that may not have been clear, so forgive me if I'm
being redundant but I saw no reference to either in your earlier post :)
I'm running Office 2008 v. 12.0.1 with Mac OS 10.5.4 and have downloaded
update 12.1.1

You need to have 12.1.0 (SP1) applied before you can apply 12.1.1

In order to apply 12.1.0, AutoUpdate itself must be updated to v. 2.1.1

Diane & Bob,

Just for the heck of it, I decided to give the update one more try, and lo-and-behold it worked!

So I'm now up to date. Microsoft worketh in mysterious ways.

Many thanks to you both for your help!

Jimper
