11.2 bug? "Recently Used List" preference set at 9 but loses allsporadically

Version 11.2 sporadically, usually after holding steady with 5-7 files
remembered, loses all or all but one of the the Recently Used List of
files. When I check preferences, it still stipulates "9" as the number of
files to remember.

I don't recall whether this started with Excel 11.1 or 11.2, just that it's
been happening recently. I've been running OS 10.4.2.

Could Repairing Permissions somehow cause Excel to forget the files on the
list?

A bug?

Hi Doc-

Theoretically, at least, repairing permissions should fix rather than cause
such behavior. What you may be dealing with is a corrupted Preferences file.
If you don't have any 'priceless' customization in XL, you might want to
trash the prefs (while XL is _not_ running) then launch the program, reset
your prefs & see if it holds.

It's possible - there've been at least 2 previous reports of this
behavior in this group.

It's more likely that a prefs file got corrupted. The MRU list resides
in the

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:com.microsoft.Excel.prefs.plist

file (where ~ is your home directory). A previous poster indicated that
deleting the

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office Settings (11)

file may have cured the problem as well.

As always, make sure all Office apps are closed before deleting the
preferences files. They'll be recreated the next time you start XL.
