No clue. Literally, because you haven't given any.

How are you trying to open them (e.g., File/Open, double-clicking in
Finder, etc)? Does "it" happen for each method?

What exactly is "it" - are you getting a system crash? PPt crashing? An
error message? Nothing happening at all?

I have office 2008 with both 12.1.0 and 12.2.0 updates. After installing 12.2.0 powerpoint files with the pptx extension, originally created on this computer can no longer be opened. Then i get the popup...

"MS PP cannot open the file. You may need to download the latest updates for Office for Mac. do you want to visit the MS website for more info?"

.... clicking yes leads me to <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972141> which tells me that 2008 no longer supports the files it originally created.

Hi,

Can you send me a sample file with the issue you describe above? You can email it directly to me at (e-mail address removed).

I have tried sending you an e-mail, but your filters block the .ppsx attachment. I have the identical problem, with the identical screen messages, as attarja reports.

12.1.9 works; 12.2.0 doesn't.

Nice job, Microsoft!

I'm seeing this too, as well as numerous other people on various boards. It seems to occur with certain pptx, xlsx, and docx files. I've sent you a zipped xlsx that has become non-functioning for me.

This is the reason I am reluctant to install the 12.2.0 update. Lord knows, there are lots of problems with OFFICE 2008 that badly need fixing. But from what I am reading the cure is worse than the illness.

I am a professional consultant who depends on OFFICE for my livelihood. I can't tolerate the bugs and dysfunctionality that currently exists in OFFICE 2008. I am on the verge of going back to a OFFICE 2007 for the PC or even my old version of OFFICE 2003.

Microsoft, fix OFFICE 2008 once and for all. For heavens sake, its been out for 18 months!

We've discussed using SuperDuper!(backup software) before, but this is an
excellent time to remind users about a feature it has that protects you from
system updates that so bad. You can also select to include all applications
like Microsoft in your sandbox.

One of the options in SuperDuper! is to create what the author calls a
"Sandbox". It's used to revert to pre-update state of your OS. Here's a
description of how this option works:

A Sandbox is a bootable copy of your system, stored on another hard drive or
partition, that shares your personal documents and data with the original.
With SuperDuper!, you actually use the Sandbox as your startup volume. You
can safely install any system updates, drivers or programs in the Sandbox,
without worrying about what might happen to your system. If anything goes
wrong, you can simply start up from the original system. SuperDuper! has
preserved it in its original, pre-disaster state but all your new and
changed personal documents are totally up to date. Within minutes, you're up
and running again without having to go through a difficult and
time-consuming restore process.

SuperDuper! Is $27.95. I¹m not affiliated with the product. Just a satisfied
user. <http://www.shirt-pocket.com/>

Hope this helps!

Ditto on Diane's comments. I am a long time SuperDuper user and
supporter.
