12.2.3 update woes

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: Exchange Hello,

My software update for Office 2008 tells me that there is a criticial update to install (Office 2008 12.2.3 Update). When I click install it happily downloads the update, but that's it: it the immediately tells me again that this same update is available. Clicking install again downloads, and tells me that same update is available. It never launches the actual updater.

I though: no problem, went to the Microsoft Mactopia site and downloaded and ran the updater myself. This seemed to work without problems. However, running the Software Update again tells me that I'm lacking this update, and I have the same behaviour as before.

What worries me even more is that About Entourage tells me that I have version 12.2.0 (090605), with as Latest Installed Update 12.2.1. I would have expected it to be 12.2.3, since this is the update that I installed manually (and didn't give errors).

I'm utterly confused about what I currently have installed, or how to install these updates if I don't have it.

I have tried installing this updater (12.2.3) on numerous occasions.
The auto update never launches so I, too, downloaded it myself. The
installer runs, starts, then fails. Every time. I even tried it with
USB devices unplugged (read somewhere - on the NUMEROUS sites
reporting failure - that was the problem), still fails. I tried it
under many other circumstances - never installs. I try it when it
rains, sunshine, hot, cold - no worky.

Any chance Micro$oft will be able to handle creating a functional
installer anytime soon? I know it is rocket science, but perhaps with
a little thought put into it... Anyone got a workaround, should Micro
$oft never deliver?

Ugh.

At least I'm not the only one :-(

What does your Entourage tell you when you do About Entourage ?

This updater requires that you have 12.1.0 to be installed. It's possible
you need to re-install Office.
