I've been happily using Entourage to get my hotmail for almost a year.
Suddenly it won't connect, send, receive or list folders. I get the 'access
to the resource is forbidden 18597' message.

I've tried deleting the account and re-entering a 'new' one - no success.

I've tried switching identity but that didn't work either.

I can get my hotmail using a browswer but Entourage doesn't want to know.
Can anyone help me with this? I'm using Entourage 2004 version 11.4.0
(080122)

Many thanks - Nick Rawls

I have the same problem. I tied to remove the offending email, but Entourage won't let me move it or delete it. Now what??

I moved all messages out of my hotmail inbox to another folder, but I still
get the same error. I've now had this issue for about a week - any ideas?

Many thanks - Nick

Create a new Identity in Entourage and enter the Hotmail account. Does it
receive your email? If yes, then there is a problem in your Main Identity
database.

I created a new identity in Entourage but still get 'access forbidden'
message

Try again through the web access. Move all messages out of your Inbox to a
new folder you create on the web. See if that clears new messages.

I created a new folder using web access, and moved all inbox items to it.
I'm still getting the 'access is forbidden' message, with the explanation
'The Hotmail folder list could not be received.'

I don't have a Hotmail account to check, but check your Account options
online to see if there is something you have checked that is causing this
error.

I can't find anything that would cause this. I can access Hotmail via web
browser. But Entourage can't connect. I've tried switching identity,
creating new identity, deleting my mail account and creating it anew,
removing all my inbox items to a new (web-created) hotmail folder. None of
these attempts have changed anything. The problem just suddenly started
about 2 weeks ago. I really don't know what to do next - can I reinstall
Entourage without losing all my data? Would that help?

I seriously doubt it. Do you use Entourage for any other accounts. BTW, did
we establish that this was not a free or grandfathered account? Were you
ever able to get mail from this account?

I got the same error with 3 differents email hotmail accounts. I guess that this issues is related with hotmail connection. The best person to answer this would be Microsoft. But so far I didn't find any real answer or solution.

If somebody know please... let us know too.

Thx
Carlos.

I've been happily using Entourage to get this hotmail account for about a
year then I started getting the 'forbidden' message

Access your hotmail account from the web, it is likely validation time again
(where you have to access it via the web to prove you are human and using
the account).

My hotmail account is the only account that Entourage was running. It is
free (it costs me nothing) but I don't know what you mean by 'grandfathered
account'. As indicated in another email, I've been able to get hotmail
using Entourage for about a year but it suddenly stopped working even though
throughout all the good times I would frequently access hotmail direct from
web browser too.

A few years ago, Hotmail dropped the ability to download via Entourage with
a free account. People who have had free accounts for a long time were
grandfathered access with Entourage. Newer subscribers do not have access
with Entourage. It's possible that your account somehow lost it's "free
access."

Gmail is free and has a great spam filter. You might even be able to forward
your Hotmail account to Gmail for download.

There are many messages here, in all we are talking in a circle. I don't believe that many people have the same issue and Microsoft didn't get a word about it. Diane, sorry but the option to change from hotmail to Gmail or another, it is not a solution it is a band-aid. I would like to hear an official answer from Microsoft hotmail and Entourage support.

Good Job Switching to gmail. I am so frustrated with this damn Microsoft I am boycotting ALL microsoft products including Office. I would highly recommend NeoOffice for anyone who wants to boycott MS-Office. Switch to gmail and you can use Mac Mail which is a far superior product anyway.

I mean this is UNACCEPTABLE THAT ENTOURAGE DOESNT WORK WITH HOTMAIL. I DONT WANT TO HEAR ANY EXCUSES ABOUT GRANDFATHER THIS OR THAT... UNACCEPTABLE.
