1900-word saved report opens blank (no words)

Hi all,
I am using MS Word 2000, which I don't usually have any problems with. The
other day, I wrote a 1900-word report and saved the document several times
while I was composing it.

When I open it today, I find that it is blank. It still has the .doc
extension and file explorer shows it as being 19kb in size. What could have
happened? Is there any way to recue the file? I searcheed for a backup copy
but nothing of the same name is to be found. I would expect a backup copy
to have the same name but a .bak extension or similar.

Thanks for any help,

Al

Note that the "Always create backup copy" option isn't enabled by default.
You have to manually select it at Tools | Options | Save.

Have you tried searching for the original document (*.doc)?

Stefan, Thank you for clarifying that. I will use it in future.

Yes. I can find the document, but it has become blank (no words) for some
unknown reason. I googled and found other instances of people who have
suffered this problem, (mentioned in various forums) but no conclusive
solution or explanation was offered by anyone.

Regards,

Test the simple things first: If you display hidden text, then does the text
turn up again?

The next step is try try Open and Repair.
