2 differerent servers, connecting to them with the same account name

Hi chaps
I have 2 completely separate installations of Project Server, on 2
distinct servers.
The first installation is of 2002, the second is of 2003, and the
latter has not been rolled out yet.

What I would like to do is to have, in my little dialog box when I try
to connect to the server when I log onto Project, the option to choose
which server I want to log onto.

The problem I have is that if I try to create an account to connect to
the new server it tells me that there is already an account of that
name (lynneb)

I can't create another account, because I'm using Windows
authentication.
I really need to keep both servers going, as I want to plan the
implementation of the 2003 server carefully, so need to connect to the
old one in the meantime.

Please can anyone help me to understand how I can connect to both
servers?

Many thanks

lynne

This doesn't make sense to me, as I use the same windows account to connect
to different servers on my network all the time. So, I guess the best thing
is to post the exact steps you're taking to generate the error.

OK,so the problem occurs when I do the following
I open Project 2002
I'm presented with a dialog box named Microsoft Project Server
Accounts.
It asks me to choose from the following 2 items
"My computer"
"Lynneb"
I have the option to connect, work offline or cancel

I choose "LynneB" and I'm dropped into Project, which opens the last
project I was working on (I've set it that way)

No problem so far.
The problem arises when I go to Tools, Enterprise Options, Microsoft
projectserver accounts.
Again I have the options of my computer and lynneb, the latter showing
the url of the server to which it connects
I want to add another account, in the name of lynneb, but connecting
to another server.
I'm using the Windows User account option, not the project server
authentication option
I test the connection and all is well, but when I hit the OK button
I'm told that there is already a project with the selected name,
please choose a different name.

How do I go about choosing the server I want to connect to using the
same project server account name of "lynneb"?

Many thanks

Lynne:

In the Account properties dialog, you may be getting confused with the field
label "Account Name." This is the name you want to give your connection, not
your logon name. (Microsoft does an incredibly lousy job at using
terminology) You can name this anything you want, you simply can't have two
connections with the same name. A good naming scheme when setting up
multiple server connections is to use a name that describes the server or
Project Server instance. After all, these "account names" are part of your
profile and nobody else can see them unless they logon to your machine with
your credentials. Use names like:

Production site
Training site
Testing site

Thank you so much, Gary, I think it's sorted now - once I'd ensured
that enterprise features were enabled I could get in!
Again, thanks for being such an accessible and reliable resource!
