2 versions of the same file opening

In creating and saving a set of Visio diagrams in one file, when I open up
the file again, I am presented with 2 versions with extensions .vsd:1 and
..vsd:2. Both sets of diagrams are the same but one shows the stencils used
and the other does not. Why is it doing this?
