I've recently bought a new XP computer and treated myself to Office Small
Business 2003. All was fine, with me editing old Word and Excel 2000
documents on the new computer, and sharing them with the old computer running
Office pro 2000. Sometimes, I edited documents on the odl computer; whatever
was easier. Everything seemd pretty compatible, bar the formattign, as Office
2003 did not keep my nice .74 inch R margin. It was a minor irritant. Not
beign able to print an Excel doc on the new printer was not. Poor printer got
in a real mess. Old Excel 2000 files were fine, but the ones I had shared
and edited with excel 2000 were not. The size of the files it was dealing
with seemed larger than expected.
Engineer confirmed it was the file but didn't know the solution, other than
not to share and edit. Which means it's hard to use the old computer as the
'back-up', as planned.
This must be an old problem but Google couldn't find anything.
Is this a compatibility issue, is there a patch? Why do the 2003 files seem
to grow and cause problems if they have also been edited with earlier
versions of Office?
