2000 Hr Task Over 3 years - How to code

What is the best way to take a task that is 2000 hrs and
will take 3 years to complete. This is a task that
someone will occasionally work on part time.

The question I have is, do I specify the duration in
days...i.e. 780 days...and then when I assign the
resource, enter in the hours that they will work on that
task...i.e. 2000?? Will that spread the hours out over
the 3 year span.....

Create a task. in the Duration column put 36 mo. In the Work column
(you will need to add this column) put in 2000 h.

Then assign the resource to the task. It will make this a 35%
assignment (assuming a default 8 hour work day calendar).

If it is important that it stay 3 years I would make it a Fixed
Duration task.
