When I try to run any office program I get an error message that says "The
operating system is not presently configured to run this program." except for
word which does nothing. With word, an hour glass flashes for 1/2 second then
nothing happens. I've installed all updates for XP and Office. Any
suggestions? Thanks so much.

Go out and purchase a "Full Retail Version"
of Microsoft Office 2003.

it is a full retail version and it works fine on my desktop thats running xp

same software.

I googled this error message, and it seems to be one of those problems that
some people run across, but nobody really has a fix to. It seems to happen
with lots of different operating systems and versions of Office.

(or this link, if that one doesn't work http://tinyurl.com/rxg5g )

One user reported that a Kerio Personal Firewall update was causing the
problem for them.

It would be a good idea to run a detect and repair also -- click the Help
menu and then click Detect and Repair.

It also seems to happen when people copy programs from one drive to another
and try to run the applications without actually reinstalling them. I
suspect that's not the problem here.

Hi Dart Guy,

How are you starting the apps? For example do you get the same result if
you search for Winword.exe and start the program directly from the Program
Files folders as you do when you use one of the shortcut icons?

Sometimes a repair/reinstall of Microsoft Office from Add/Remove Programs in
the Windows control panel will help.
Damage to the shortcuts can be caused by using 3rd party 'cleanup'
utilities, for example.
