2003 file format

I am trying to find out if MS Project 2003 standard file format is
backwards compatible with 2000 version?

(that is without doing a save as to an older version).

We have Project 2000 and were not planning to upgrade at this time.
Client, who is not very computer literate, keeps sending files that
are not able to be opened by our version. We've tried to get the
client to save as an older version, but being computer illiterate, its
not happening.

Before spending the $$ to buy a license, I want to verify this will
resolve the issue. If that is the case, I will buy one license to be
used as a conversion station until we decide to upgrade the 200 other
licenses we have.

Hi Jayjay,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Project 2000 will read Project 2003 produced files.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

Thank you for the response Mike,

If indeed Proj2K can open a proj '03 file without that having been
"save as" then there must be another issue at hand.

The files we receive from our client cannot be opened on our systems.
We have project 2k.

Hi Jayjay,

I've just tried a test by creating a new project in 2003, saving it normally
as a 2003 mpp file. It then opened normally in Project 2000. Are they in
mpp format? Would you like me to try?
