2003 Install problem

Have a retail 203 cd that is read fine by other computers, but on the laptop
(hp ze5478cl) it only comes up as a blank disk. Do a disk properties on it
and it shows up as 0 free, 0 available. This unit is a DVD/CD-RW, does
anybody know of an issue with this type of setup?

no error message is shown. It is like the drive sees the disk as blank, no
auto-start, no cd read errors nothing. As I said the disk works perfectly
fine in another drive, but this one sees 0 kb used, 0 kb available. I cleaned
the disk & checked for scratches just to be on the safe side but the package
was just bought on Saturday.
