2003 mde not working on Windows 2000

Don Barton

I created a database with MS Access 2003 on Vista Home Premium op
system. The mdb was saved in XP/2003 format and converted to an mde.
My client has MS Access XP running under Windows 2000. The mde did
not work on his computer. Error: format not recognized. I then
loaded the mdb version of the same database on his computer, and
created the mde using his version of Access XP running under Windows
2000. The mde created functioned as expected. Anyone else discover
this problem? I would have thought that creating an mde compatible
with MS Access XP/2003 should have worked, just as an mdb did.

Is this an op system issue?

Thanks,

Don

Hi, Don.
My client has MS Access XP running under Windows 2000. The mde did
not work on his computer. Error: format not recognized.

Earlier versions of Access cannot open an MDE database file created in a
later version of Access. The database was in 2002/2003 format when it was
an MDB, but when you converted it to an MDE, it was made into an Access 2003
binary. Either he must upgrade to Access 2003 or newer version to open the
file, or you must create an Access 2000 or 2002 MDE database file, which are
the only versions that Access 2002 can open.
Is this an op system issue?

No.
