2003 Runtime not installing on NT machines

Jetera

HI everyone,

I have a 2003 runtime that installs successfully on Windows 200 machines but
won't install on NT machines. Any ideas on how I can make this work?

Thanks

Access 2003 (Full version and Runtime) will only install on Windows 2000 SP3 or SP4 and Windows XP.
Check the system requirements for confirmation.

Thanks Jeff ! - but I have another question. Can I somehow downgrade my
access application to 2000 and repackage it as a 2000 runtime? I was
thinking of opening a new 2000 db and importing all the objects from the 2003
and then packaging with Office developer tools...do you know if this will
work?

Access 2000 will be unable to import from Access 2002/2003 format. However,
you can save the database in Access 2000 format from within Access 2003.

Tools | Database Utilities | Convert Database on the menu.

Unless you're using features that are unique to Access 2003, this should
work fine. In fact, the default file format of Access 2003 is actually the
Access 2000 format.

Thanks Douglas- I have that done now. My next question is - can I use the
2003 P&D wizard to packege it up as a runtime or do I have to use something
else? Also, if I can use the 2003 P&D, do I include the Access 2003 Runtime,
I need to because some users don't have access, or do I have to include a
lower version of the runtime?

Thanks everyone for all your help, this was my first topic ever posted.

Hi Jetera,

Doug is definitely more of an expert on the P&D wizard than myself so I'll leave those questions to
him. However, I am pretty sure that you could still be in the same problem as before. Even though
you have your database in 2000 format now the 2003 P&D wizard will only install a Runtime version of
2003. You will not be able to install the 2003 Runtime for your users without Access who do not have
Windows 2000 SP3 or SP4 or Windows XP. So you are back to square one again! I am also not sure if
the 2003 P&D will package up a database in 2000 format. It may, I am just not sure.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Jeff, but I have the luxury of working in
an environment where everyone has Access installed on their desktop, so I
don't need to use the P&D wizard!

In any case, you're absolutely correct that it's not the database format
that matters, but the version of the runtime that's installed, and the
Access 2003 wizard will only package with the Access 2003 runtime.

I believe you can package an Access 2000 format application with the Access
2003 runtime. However, you cannot create an MDE from an Access 2000 format
application using Access 2003.

You will have to locate an older version of the runtime. You may be
able to get it from Microsoft.
