2003 startup

Worked before the crash.. Excel 2003 should start with a blank worksheet
from the "start" directory and not automatically save back to that
directory. Told it to save to C:\Workfiles but if you save it when first
opens up it changes the original start up file. Should be easy but cannot
get it to NOT automatically save to "start" directory.

Maybe you're opening a file in your "start" directory.

If you start excel and look at File|Properties|General tab, what do you see for
the location?

If start directory means XLStart, you may want to close excel and use windows
explorer to search for that XLStart folder (all of them!) and see what files are
in there.

For me (xl2003 and winXP Home), my XLStart is here:
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
and I only have 3 files in it:

book.xlt
sheet.xlt
personal.xla

If you see book.xls (or anything.xls), then move it (or delete it) and restart
excel to test.
