2003 Web Templates

Huh? What do you mean by "the path to the web site templates"? Are you
looking for additional templates that you can use with FrontPage?

S

sleepin

Sorry. I mean the path within XP Pro to the Web Site (One Page Web, Empty
Web etc.) Template folder.

Led me right to the spot. Thanks! As a follow up, I am trying to have FP
open to: E:\Documents\Webs. This is a second HD I have on my computer. For
some reason, FP will only open to: C:\Documents and Settings\Henry\My
Documents\My Web Sites. Can you tell me the
steps to get FP to open to E:\Documents\Webs?

Your recent or last used web are stored in the registry
If you are familiar w/ registry editing (backup before editing) go to the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage\Explorer\FrontPage Explorer\Settings
and edit the value of the key DefaultWebName to E:\Documents\Webs

Or just use File open web and browse to E:\Documents\Webs (or a web there)
Then next time use File recent Sites to find your web/site

You can also set FP to always open a specific web
Open your FP web/site
Tools Options general - set open last web
Close FP w/o closing the web/site

FYI

The default for user custom web templates should be the USER Application Folder
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\FrontPage\Webs

The system Default location may not be preserved during Reinstalls / Repairs / Updates /Upgrades of FP. For example in FP2003 the
location of the templates moved from
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\Webs\
to
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\WEBS11

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for your suggestion. I am able to edit the registry and have done it
before, but only when absolutely necessary. Before I take such drastic
action please answer three questions:

Why won't FP 2003 open where I want it to by mapping the drive? Once the
registry is edited what options do I have if I need to change something else
within FP 2003 that might effect how Windows connects it to another program?
Clip Organizer or a graphic or .css editor for example. Finally, after
making the registry
change, if I don't like the new configuration, what options am I left with?
Thanks for your help.

S

Stefan B Rusynko

The key is specific to FP and the default web name/location (no other MS apps affected)

There were 3 ways in my post to have FP always go to a specific location
- the registry change is not the only option

I appreciate your help. My concern is that because my knowledge is limited I
don't want to do something that might cause further harm to my setup. I am
not satisfied with what I have now but don't have enough experience to fix
it.

I tried each if the three ways you suggested but have not yet tried the
registry edit. I know I'm on my own if I edit the registry. Can that be
undone without reinstalling FP if necessary?
