2004 - Grid placement and jumping images

M

Michael Grant

Is anyone else having the problem of trying to place graphics only to find
them jumping as if snapping to grid? I've turned off 'snap to grid', but when
I move the ghosted image around and then let go, PP 'snaps' it to a different
location than where I moved it. I find this maddening and it almost makes it
unusable. If you try this in PP 2003 on Windows it allows you to smoothly
drag an image around, and then when you drop it in place it stays exactly
where you placed it.

Please tell me that such an obvious glitch didn't make it past Microsoft QA.
Is there some way of correcting this? I'm new to the Mac version of PP. Very
frustrating!!!!

thanks,
Michael

Yes absolutely, this is also a problem for me. I wonder how that made it
into the release -- works fine in Powerpoint X.

Definitely a problem in PP 2004. What is happening is that the image is
going to where the "fist" is placed, not where the vague outline of the
object is shown. So if you are looking at the image and let go, it seems to
jump to another place. Look, instead, at the location of the grabber
("fist") and the image will go roughly to that place. Not very accurate,
but that is what is happening. You should complain to MS to add you voice
to the chorus!

As per an older posting under a different header:

Turn off the "show ruler" option, and "bingo!" everything works as expected.
