Office 2004 Setup Assistant crashes when I click "Next" (or any other button other than "Back") on the License Agreement page. As a matter of observation, I can only see the License Agreement in Dutch and Japanese... I have previously uninstalled Office 2004 (Remove Office, Library files to trash, Microsoft User Data to Desktop). I have also manually downloaded and installed the latest Apple combo update (10.5.4). What else is to be done?

Have you tried a new User? Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in
Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User
Switching. Test there.

This is the Setup Assistant that pops up when installing from the CD? I'm
thinking it could be a font problem. It could be looking for fonts you don't
have installed.

Thank for this. Creating a New User did not help though...

Yes, it is the Setup Assistant. I double-click on it on the CD and it crashes once I get to the License Agreement page. Likewise, if I drag all of the Microsoft Office 2004 folder from the CD to the Applications folder, and then try launching any Office application - the Setup Assistance pops up and crashes.

There is definitely some issue with the fonts as I cannot see the License Agreement. I did not think it could interfere with overall installation but you may be right. Which specific fonts do I need for MS Office setup? I don't have any font problems with any other application.

I have no clue. I was thinking along the lines of different languages when
you mentioned Dutch and Japanese.

I hate to mention it, but it could take an "Archive & Install" of the OS to
fix it. I did this recently, and the only thing I had to re-install was my
Microsoft keyboard software.

"Archive and Install" moves existing system files to a folder named Previous
System and then installs Mac OS X again.

Just be sure to check Preserve Users and Network Settings when you select
Archive & Install.
