2007 beta2 removal??

H

Haldimar

Is there a tool needed/available for removing Office 2007 beta2? I've tried
removing within the add/remove program function but it leaves files that 2003
doesn't like to work with. Couldn't reload/restore 2003 but was able to
re-install 2007. I need to take 2007 off my "go to" machine and put it on a
back up machine as 2007 is still a little "buggy" for mission critical
machines right now (I know, it said that in the download notes, being the
eternal optomist, I regretfully ignored that admonition..)
Thanks for any ideas or sources.

Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to clean out the mess once you
have removed both Office 2007 and 2003. Then reinstall Office 2003.

Moral - never install a beta on a machine you can't afford to format.

Hi Haldimar,

Do you a list or examples of where you're seeing files not being removed that subsequent reinstall or repair of Office 2003 (after a
restart of the PC) is having problems with?

Bob:
I violated a number of protocols in this fiasco, the "essential machine"
just started it and the 2nd rule was I violated was not writing down the .dll
file that WinXP said it needed to make 2003 work correctly. I did search and
find the wayward .dll in numerous folders, but as to documentation... nada.
The frustration level was thru the roof because "Murphy" had camped out in my
office and refused to leave until I put 2007 back in. I did get a tip from
Milly which I will try on Sunday to give me time to get my 2003 back to
"normal".
Thanks to all for your responses! I still think 2007 willl rock when finally
released to the unsuspecting public. My clients did like the look/feel of
2007 when I used it in their offices.

I knew it, read it, but like some of us macho males, I thought I could
"cheat death" one more time. A humbled "kinda-geek" kneels before you now.
Since I've never used the Installer cleanup util, give me a hint where it
hides and I will put 2007 on a "non-critical" machine that is quite used to
being "wiped" after a little too much experimentation. My workhorse ThinkPad
will be returned to duty minus 2007 thanks to you!

Hi Haldimar,

The Windows Installer cleanup utility only removes registry entries, not files and it is possible for other apps/products to break
when it is used.

It's available from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us?FR=1

(Thanks Bob, I appreciate the heads-up on the limitations of the util. I did
download it and will dive into the fray tomorrow. Should any error/files bet
popped up again, I'll post them in this thread. I did notice that just like
the first time around, after installing 2007, 2003 disappeared from the
add/remove programs function in XP. I'm assuming that removal of all the 2007
components is the "best practice"?
(MS VisualBasic C++ and Office Live meeting "appeared" with the 2007
original install)
Thanks again for your posts!

First thing to do is to uninstall all Office versions, run the utility, then
search your hard drive for any leftover folders that may have been over
looked (Office Shared is often overlooked).

Then reinstall your office 2003 suite, update it and kick the beta once hard
in the pants, after considering doing the same to yourself! ROTFL

No kicking allowed for software or users... well maybe small (10D size) boots
in the rear section. The cleaneruper must've been the "magic". 07 is gone, 03
is back with full functionality, I'm a happy camper and will buy your potion
of choice if you ever hit the Denver, CO area. Thanks again!!

Better than buy me a potion, put $5 into the church collection plate,
fdonate to your favorite charity, or better yet, go down the street and
offer to help that little old lady with her weeding for an hour.
