2007 Crashing. Reinstall?

Hi there,

I've had ongoing problems with getting Outlook to send emails to a
distribution list with attachments, but now it's gotten worse. I'm working
with Vista.

Today, when I started up Outlook, I immediately got the message that Outlook
is "Not Responding." This shows up in brackets following the icon in the
upper left corner.

I have the disk for Office 2007. It has a 1.93 Mb file called Outlook MUI
(Windows Installer Package). I've been thinking that I should uninstall
Outlook and then reinstall it using this file. Does this make sense? If I do
so, I don't lose my data files (emails) do I?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Bill

While you shouldn't lose your data, reinstalling isn't the best approach at
this juncture. First see if Outlook will start in safe mode (hold Ctrl when
starting Outlook) or try a new mail profile.

Hi Brian,

Thnaks for your prompt response.

I started Outlook in safe mode and tried to forward a messagfe to a
colleague. I was just about finished typing (maybe 50 to 100 words), when I
got the "Not Responding" message. I briefly switched to another program, then
back and the message was gone. I completed the message and then the "Not
Rsponding" came up again.

Finally, I was able to send the message and it showed up in my "Sent" folder.

Any other thoughts about what I should do next?

Thanks,
Bill

I'd try two things: first use the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) on your
data file. Seconf use Help>Office Diagnostics in Outlook to attempt a
repair.

Hi Brian,

Thanks again for the advise.

I found the scanpst file and tried to scan my Inbox. Unfortunately, the
message I got back was that the file was in use and I should shut down
Outlook and any other email enabled programs. I did that (including Internet
Explorer) and tried again. Same result.

I then shut down the computer and started again. Same result. It doesn't
make sense that a file would be "in use" when Outlook isn't up and running.
(I don't have any other mail enabled program other than IE.

Any further thoughts? .... Please ....

Regards,
Bill

No hand-held devices in the cradle? Open the Task manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc).
Does OUTLOOK.EXE appear on the Processes tab?

Uggggh!! I forgot that my PDA was in the cradle!!.

When I took itout of the cradle I was able to activate scanpst.exe. When it
completed its work, it said there were errors. I wasn't given any further
details. I clicked on "repair" and it completed the repairs so I'm going to
hope that process has solved my problem.

Thanks for sticking with this problem for me.

Bill
