2007 Installation question

Fr. Gregory Hallam

I am shortly to buy a new Vista PC and in preparation I have ordered a
retail upgrade copy of Office Professional 2007 (I have a retail Office
2000 Premium CD to base that on).

The new PC will have MS Works 8.5 preinstalled. How do I stop Office
2007 upgrading that OEM software?

I don't want to uninstall Works but I do want Office 2007 to upgrade
Office 2000 so I that I can maintain licence flexibility if I later move
the installation to a different machine (not least because as retail
customer I want Office 2007 on my laptop as well).

Thanks.

When prompted about updating the current version, tell it no.
Thank you JoAnn ... do I take it that the installation routine will then
prompt me for a disc? Thanks!

As long as it's installed, it shouldn't but it never hurts to have it handy.

Since this is a new PC can I NOT install Office 2000 first and simply
update from an inserted CD once I have got past the stage of it offering
to update from Works?

Sorry - brain lapse there. Forgot it was a new PC.

Don't put Office 2000 on it if you have Works *Suite*. You can run multiple
versions of an Office app but they need to be installed in order of release.

I would also suggest you do some homework. There was a problem with Office
2007 breaking Works. I don't know where that stands right now. It might have
been corrected in the released version but maybe not. Search the newsgroups
archives first.

Thanks ... just one more question!

On reflection I can do without Works ... I never use it.

Will this work?

(1) Uninstall Works (OEM)
(2) Insert Office 2007 Upgrade CD
(3) I presume that the installation routine will ask for a disk ....
insert Office 2000 CD
(4) Reinsert Office 2007 CD and proceed with installation.
