[2007] Progress in Project Pro

Hello,
The resources enter the Actual Work in their timesheet regularily, but :
Because of the unfriendly interface of the new timesheet and update tasks
feature in PWA, project managers refuse to update the tasks via this
complicated process. They expect to enter Actual Duration and Remaining
Duration in the Update Tasks dialog (as we did in Project 98....) in Project
Professional 2007.
Is it possible to do so ? What'll happen when they'll save and publish their
projet ?
Thanks

Your "stubborn" PM's can enter Actual Duration and Remaining Duration to an
enterprise project in Microsoft Project Professional 2007. All they need to
do is to insert those columns in any task Table, or to create a new Table
for that purpose. In fact, if they are going to track by Duration only,
they should make a copy of the Work table and then substitute the
corresponding Duration column for each Work column in the Table. For
example, substitute Duration for Work, Actual Duration for Actual Work, etc.
They should also substitute % Complete for % Work Complete. When they enter
an Actual Duration for tasks in their project, then save and publish, the
actuals entered in Microsoft Project Professional get "pushed" to the My
Tasks page for the resources assigned to those tasks. Hope this helps.

If team members are entering actuals in their PWA, the PM's need to update
those actuals from PWA into the Microsoft Project plan before they enter
their own actual progress manually. That way, it won't mess up anything.
Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot Dale,

I'll keep struggling to come back to more efficient progress tracking, but
for now I have to comply with that one. I'm afraid that these actuals
entered in Microsoft Project Professional get "pushed" to the My Tasks page
for the resources assigned to those tasks, and generate a mess with the
actuals entered by the resources in their timesheet. Have you an idea of
what'll happen?

Thanks Dale,
Definitly, I'll ask the PMs to update their projects the normal way even if
they don't like the user interface.
Thanks again
