Compared to 2003, I am seeing a different behavior in 2007
(you can test with only one task in project, to avoid complications)
1. I have a task which is split into two (has two SplitParts)
2. This task is completed (important)
3. Get the finish date of 2nd SPLIT.
4. Delete the 2nd split
5. Set the FINISH date of 1st SPLIT to date saved in step 3
In 2003, the task remains 100% completed
In 2007, the task gets converted to in-progress with some remaining duration.
