2007 smart art animation lost in publish to CD

I've used the 'publish to CD' feature on my .pptx file, but it changes to
burn the .ppt version. The PP 2007 smart art animations are lost because the
file that is burned/published to the CD is the .ppt version, not the .pptx.
I want my animations back - those that come from the SmartArt that is new in
2007.

How do I really publish the .pptx presentation to the CD, and be sure that
it includes the 2007 smart art animations?

Thanks

Hi

The powerpoint viewer can't handle pptx's so it automatically saves your
pptx as a ppt (and thus loses your smart art animations) when you include the
viewer in your package for cd. If you don't need the viewer you can select
archive package instead of viewer package by clicking the options button in
the package for cd dialogue. This then saves your file as a pptx so you don't
lose anything. But be aware the person viewing the file will need full
powerpoint 2007 installed in order to see your file in all it's animated
glory :)

An alternative so you can use the viewer would be to animate all the bits
seperately - to find out how see Echo's great explanation here:

Thanks, Lucy. I do want the viewer on the CD, and I want the animations.
So, very frustrated (since I really liked the ease of the smart art
animations), I began to follow Echo's instructions. Not bad, but I didn't
like the EMF/ungroup results (to many objects were generated). Instead, I
inserted a new slide behind the one with the smart art. I individually
selected each of the smart art objects and pasted them to the new slide
(avoiding the smart art 'wrapper'). I then could select the non-smart-art
objects and paste them to the empty slide. I could then re-create the
animation, and check that it was the same from slide 1 to new slide 2, and
then delete slide 1, the old one.

But - how frustrating - I wish I'd known ahead of time that the smart art
animations couldn't be shared.

That's a good way to do it, too, T. Thanks for posting what worked for you.

And for what it's worth, I agree with you -- I wish there were some kind of
warning about the features you lose because of the "backsaving" when
packaging for CD in 2007. Links are another -- if there are links in the
file, be sure to check them carefully.

I know, frustrating isn't it? At least you've found a work around (and
thanks for sharing) - though a fairly time consuming one :-(
