2007 SP1 update failure on Vista x64

D

Darin Dugan

Running Office 2007 Enterprise on Windows Vista Enterprise x64. Installed
available updates this morning including the office service pack...8 updates
succeeded; Office 2007 SP1 failed to install with code '78F'.

Have rebooted, tried again, tried while logged on with actual administrator
account, downloaded and ran full SP install...all failed.

Ran the full exe with the /log switch...this looks interesting:

OPatchInstall: Will log to file 'c:\temp\Office2007SP1SetupLog.txt'
OPatchInstall: Will use verbose logging level for the patch installation
OPatchInstall: Starting the installation of the patches
OPatchInstall: The installation of the patches failed
OPatchInstall: Setting system property 'SYS.ERROR.INERROR' with value '1'
OPatchInstall: Setting system property 'SYS.ERROR.CODE' with value
'0x80004005'
OPatchInstall: Setting system property 'SYS.ERROR.TYPE' with value 'HRESULT'

Setup also created a MAINWWsp1.LOG in the same directory...this looks
interesting:

Update '2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)' could not be

I haven't had any issues on other (32-bit x86) machines.

Anyone successfully installed on Vista x64? Suggestions? Thanks, all.

In case it is relevant, I also have Visio Pro 2007 and Project Pro 2007
installed (not part of the Enterprise suite).

Did you select the correct download file for the Enterprise version of Office 2007 in the 64 bit windows environment

D

Darin Dugan

It's my understanding that there is no 64-bit version of Office 2007. The
install does detect if you're running x64 and installs a few "extra" things,
but there is no separate media.

Likewise I am unable to locate any version of the service pack that
specifies what edition of Office it is for or for which architecture Windows
is running on. If you know something I don't please share.

And of course one would hope Microsoft Update would select the proper
install if there were in fact multiple versions....

Good point, there are 32-bit and 64-bit versions for the Office SERVER
products. But not for the client suite. Thanks.

Following Emily Lin's suggestions in a separate thread I was able to get SP1
installed. Repairing the 2007 install FROM THE CD seems to be what fixed it.
Repairing via Programs and Features without the CD did not help. Perhaps my
LIS was hosed...though the machine was freshly built just two weeks ago.

Working now--thanks, Emily.
Cheers.

Hi Darin,

Are you saying that you repaired via CD _before_ downloading and installing
SP1? Please verify, thanks.

Correct. Both Microsoft Update and fullfile download 2007 SP1 installs failed
until I repaired the 2007 Gold install from CD. After repairing the gold
install from CD I successfully installed SP1 via Microsoft Update. (It had
been there failed, just hit 'Try Again'.)

I still have the failed installation logs (prior to repairing the gold
install) if you care to see them.
Cheers.

Actually yes, I did have the 2007 Gold CD in the drive while successfully
installing SP1. Didn't realize I left it in until now (was still there). So
the success could have been due to the 2007 Gold CD being present or the 2007
Gold repair from CD.

Cheers.

At this time, from what we've gathered, the temporary solution is to have
the CD in the drive at the time of SP1 installation. So, if anyone you know
is having this same problem, have them put the CD in the drive - it should
enable the installation of SP1.

Thanks for your help!

Actually yes, I did have the 2007 Gold CD in the drive while successfully
installing SP1. Didn't realize I left it in until now (was still there).
So
the success could have been due to the 2007 Gold CD being present or the
2007
Gold repair from CD.

Cheers.

Thanks Darin,

One more question - did you happen to leave the 2007 Gold CD in the
CD-ROM
drive during the successful SP1 installation? Just curious...

Correct. Both Microsoft Update and fullfile download 2007 SP1 installs
failed
until I repaired the 2007 Gold install from CD. After repairing the
gold
install from CD I successfully installed SP1 via Microsoft Update. (It
had
been there failed, just hit 'Try Again'.)

I still have the failed installation logs (prior to repairing the gold
install) if you care to see them.
Cheers.

Hi Darin,

Are you saying that you repaired via CD _before_ downloading and
installing
SP1? Please verify, thanks.

Following Emily Lin's suggestions in a separate thread I was able to
get
SP1
installed. Repairing the 2007 install FROM THE CD seems to be what
fixed
it.
Repairing via Programs and Features without the CD did not help.
Perhaps
my
LIS was hosed...though the machine was freshly built just two weeks
ago.

Working now--thanks, Emily.
Cheers.

Running Office 2007 Enterprise on Windows Vista Enterprise x64.

Have rebooted, tried again, tried while logged on with actual

Ran the full exe with the /log switch...this looks interesting:

On Office Ultimate here, I reinstalled it using the CD (mounted the ISO
using Magic ISO), and ran the offline SP1 update. It worked.

Microsoft tech support will work on this for free since SP1 is a critical
update and even if your free Office 2007 support period has ended.

MS tech support says that any work on any critical update is free.

M

Melle van der Klip

Is this true?

Because i am trying to get support for my SP1 install for 2 days now, and i
was told that service packs are not covered under free support.

I either had to pay, or take up a software assurance subscription.

My SP1 fails with error code 80200053.
The only description available states that this has to do with disk space.
There's only like 16 GB of free space.

The update wont even start on the system, during the extraction it just
suddenly stops, and gives an 'update failed' message.

I tried this through windows update, and full file, even downloaded it
multiple times...

I also did an reinstall of the entire system, so that includes office 2007...
I am really getting nowhere. I see a lot of people are having troubles with
installing SP1 for office 2007. But nowhere i found someone with exactly my
error / description.

Here's the error part from the install log:

OPatchInstall: Begin evaluation of the condition
OPatchInstall: The property 'PACKAGE.PATCH.QUEUED' exists
OPatchInstall: Evaluation of the condition complete, the result is true
OPatchInstall: Executing the IfTrue list
OPatchInstall: CActionExtractQueuedFiles::execute starts
OPatchInstall: Using the operation string 'Extracting files, please wait...'
and the cancel string '&Cancel' and the title string '2007 Microsoft Office
Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)'
OPatchInstall: Will extract all of the enqueued files
OPatchInstall: Adding the files to the cab extractor
OPatchInstall: Getting the data from the file 'E:\Programs\Office\Service
packs\office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe'
OPatchInstall: Succesfully retrieved the data location and size
OPatchInstall: Extracting the file id 'MAINWWsp1' to the path
'C:\Users\M32D9~1.VAN\AppData\Local\Temp\OWP1D11.tmp\MAINWWsp1.msp'
OPatchInstall: The extraction of the files failed
OPatchInstall: Setting system property 'SYS.ERROR.INERROR' with value '1'
OPatchInstall: Setting system property 'SYS.ERROR.CODE' with value
'0x80004005'
OPatchInstall: Setting system property 'SYS.ERROR.TYPE' with value 'HRESULT'

Kind regards,
Melle van der Klip.
