Newbie --
First of all, before you create Team resources, remember that they are only
useful in an organization that has static project teams. With this in mind,
before you can create a Team resource you must do the following:
1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click the Server Settings link in the sidepane on the left
3. Click the Enterprise Custom Field Definition link in the Enterprise Data
section of the page
4. Create a new custom Lookup Table called Team Names or something of the
like
5. In the Lookup Table, list the names of Teams you intend to use with the
Team resource
6. Edit the Team Name built-in custom field to include the new Team Names
lookup table
After you complete the above steps to setup the Team Name field, you must do
the following:
1. Launch Project Professional 2007 and log into Project Server with
administrator permissions
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Resource Pool
3. When you see the Project Center page displayed in Project Professional
2007, click the "Click here to close this view" link in the upper right
corner of the page
4. In the Resource Sheet view of the blank Enterprise Resource Pool, enter
a name for the Team resource
5. Double-click the name of the Team resource and select the Generic option
on the General page
6. Click the Custom Fields tab and select the name of the team from the
Team Name pick list
7. Click the OK button
8. Right-click on the Type column header, select Insert Column, and insert
the Team Resource Pool column
9. In the Team Resource Pool column, select the Yes value for the new Team
resource
10. Save and close the Enterprise Resource Pool
After you do steps #1-10, you must check out the resources in the Enterprise
Resource Pool that will be members of the new team that you created. You
must double-click each of those resources and set the Team Name value to the
value you selected in step #6 above so that their Team Name value matches
the Team Name value for the Team resource.
After doing so, your PM's can select the Team resource as project team
member using the Build Team from Enterprise dialog, and assign the Team
resource to tasks in the project. When the PM publishes the project,
members of that team see the tasks on their PWA timesheets page. Hope this
helps.
