I have a need to schedule every 5th Saturday whenever such dates occur. Is
there a way to set this up as a recurring appointment without simply copying
it?

I have the same problem with 5th Tuesdays, recently posted a question but
have not heard of a solution. So far I just copy; there aren't that many 5ths
but it would be nice to have the choice in recurrance of "5th" day of the
month.

at this time, this is your only option as outlook doesn't support a 5th day.
