80040E09 Err can someone shed some light?

The same problem existed with WMP:9 and TabletPC-SP1

I updated to

SP2-Tablet PC2005 on TC1000 and Installed WMP:10

When I try to search media files it just sits there, Ive tested local/my
music folder etc and network locations to no avail. I do not get an err
code.

I can navigate/open and play a media file, but when I then attempt to "add
playing to libary" I get an err code: 80040E09

MS-Webhelp has no information on this code nor the WMP10 errCode website.

I have searched numerous pages and the only reference to this code is in
relation to SQL databases and MS Jet Engine!

Given that the problem existed before SP2 and WMP10 were loaded on my Tablet
PC and given that WMP is reporting an err code related to a database (im
assuming this is how WMP handles added files) could someone please help!

I'd suggest asking this in either one of the Windows Media groups
(microsoft.public.windowsmedia.*), or one of the newgsroups related to
Windows XP (microsoft.public.windowsxp.*), or
microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc

This newsgroup is for questions about Access, the database product that's
part of Office Professional.

Unfortunatly this is a bit beyound them, and it appears to be an OS database
problem, thought some Access wizers might have some clue's

UPDATE:

The err code is in fact listed under Technet as a read/write database
permission error in Exchange Server and elsewhere on the web as a read/write
MS-Jet-Database permission issue. When WMP wants to add a media to the
media-library it must be accessing some OS database for I dunno temp
location/details maybe... which is producing the err code reported by
Exchange and Jet Database users elswhere.

If I could find out which OS/Shared database objects WMP is accessing when
adding media to library I would then be able to check the read/write
permissions and/or corruption of the database object.

Interestingly I searched my Tablet for the MS-JET-Database dlls/files etc by
downloading the Jet-update and comparing with those in system32, I
discovered that they had all been updated with SP2. So they do exist...
question is why is WMP showing me a JET-Database error code!!!!!

I understand that there are two quite different versions of the Jet database
engine, the one that is used by Access, and the one that is used by
Exchange. If Windows Media Player also uses Jet, it seems quite likely that
it may use the same version as Exchange. This is not something with which
many Access developers are likely to be familiar. I can understand your
frustration at failing to find an answer elsewhere, but I'm afraid I think
it is unlikely that you'll get an answer here.

Of course, if anyone wants to prove me wrong by posting a solution to JD's
problem, please do!

HURRAH! START PRIZE FOR ERIN!

I couldnt open the media folder "access denied" so I replaced the ownership
rights and bingo everything worked a treat!

Thanks Erin, I had posted the thread on almost all the newsgroups and
everyone was stumped apart from you!!

I had looked at the media folder BUT not in /local!! I had gone straight to
/AppData and found no problems. Not the first time, always anoys me backing
up Outlook.pst files, being located in /Local/Appdata aswell as /AppData,
bad carma to use same files names I always think.

Cheers Erin, now I can add my playlist to my PCMCIA 2gb card and listen to
my music on my IPAQ3630 (which by the way had failed to sync with WMP10
storage card) so only my Tablet PC (with corrupt WMP) had a PCMCIA slot!!

God it would have been easier to have bought an IPOD. ;)

Guessing from your other post, you are looking to rebuild your library.
Just rename the files at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player and relaunch the player,
then try researching.
Thanks,

Erin Dallin [MS]

This other version of Jet is also used by other MS software and/or OS
components and not just Exchange.
