_VTI_CNF

I have taken over a website from somebody. The site was
created with Front Page. There is a subdirectory within
every directory called _VTI_CNF. Can these be deleted?
What are they? Can they be moved outside the root directory?

Thank you for your help.

If you aren't using FrontPage to work on the site and the site isn't hosted
on a FrontPage Server Extensions enabled web server, wes you can delete
them. This particular _vti directory contains configuraiton info on the
files that exist in the directory. There are a series of files in there that
will mirror the files in the directory except that they are small text files
that contain meta information about the original file. This is use to help
FrontPage keep track of every file in an FP web.

Hope tihs helps,

Those directories are special folders used by the FrontPage Server
Extensions. If you delete them then you'll no longer be able to open the
site in FrontPage and use any special features that require the server
extensions.

If you are using FP leave the files alone (they are FP configuration files)
If you are not using FP you can delete them all
