A Blank Screen

I have a problem with an Access database (Office XP). After a long period of
use by a number of authorised users, suddenly we have a problem when the
database in opened. The window which in my experience always appears when a
database in opened is not there. It's the window which shows icons for Open,
Design and New across the top left, the menu containing types of object on
the left and lists the selected objects in the windowon the right.

The database seems to be OK, at least all of the objects are showing in
Database Properties in the File menu, and Export in the same menu offers to
export one of the objects - I have successfully exported one the main tables
for example. However, whatever I do, I can't get the window back and so
can't access any of the objects.

Any ideas?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, Jim.

Sure. There's nothing wrong with the database. Someone has either turned
off the display of the Database window or moved it out of the visible range.
Try any of the following:

1.) First, check to ensure that the Database window hasn't been moved off
the visible part of the screen by scrolling the Access application window
horizontally and vertically all the way to the edges. If there are no
scrollbars or the Database window is still not visible, then try the other
techniques.

2.) Press the <F11> key. (The "Allow Access Special Keys" option needs to
be enabled for this to work.)

3.) Select the Windows menu -> Unhide... to open the "Unhide Window" dialog
window. Select the "<DatabaseName>: Database (Access 2000 file format)"
item, then select the "OK" button to display the Database window.

4.) Select the Tools menu -> Startup... to open the Startup dialog window.
Make sure that the "Display Database Window" checkbox is checked, then select
the "OK" button to save your change. Close the database and then open it
again. The Database window will be displayed.

HTH.

Dear "69 Camero"

Thanks for the response. The Database window had been hidden by mistake.
Unhide on the Windows menu restored it immediately. Normal work has resumed.

Many thanks!
