A couple of questions

First, even with a satellite modem, it took me nearly an hour and a half to
get registered, reply with the email, sign up for the email notification,
have to allow popups here after having to hunt down the forum/discussion page
again, and finally get this screen to load up so I could post. Why???????

Second......I use FP2000 and although I can add a hit counter to my site, I
would like to find out if I change the hit counter appearance for each page
that I would like an individual tally on instead of using the same hit
counter for all, will I get the results I want or will I only get one total
tally of all the pages combined? I'm trying to weed out pages that never get
visited and a site analyzer for my site is actually overkill since I don't
need huge statistic logs...only an individual hit counter.

Are there any other types of hit counters that do this that I can download
or pay somebody to create somewhere on the net that will do this, and if so,
do you have any links to them as I haven't found any on my own searching
because the search engines don't understand the difference and give me
thousands of links to weed through.

1st . Any reason you don't use the nntp newsgroup feature in Outlook Express??
news.microsoft.com and the newsgroup is microsoft.public.frontpage.client

nntp://news.microsft.com should open the newsreader

2nd. Yes you can add a hit counter to each page and it will be independent from all others.

Thank for letting me know about the newsgroup option....I didn't know the
nttp address to get to this specific forum so your providing that information
will benefit me greatly. I appreciate it and will add it to my OE program.

In order to have the hit counter on each page, do I need to alter the
appearance of it or can it be the same on each page I put it on?

The hit counter "images" are created "on the fly" by fpcount.exe. You can use the same one on each
page, a different on different pages or even create your own "custom" images.

The counter on the bottom of this page is a custom image:

Here's the image: http://www.95isalive.com/images/smile3.gif
and here's yet another http://www.95isalive.com/images/95.gif

Regarding hit counters, as long as you don't put the counter on the page in
the shared border, it should count a separate tally for each page.

Be aware that it is literally a "hit" counter, so if you work live on the
site in FP, and you open a page with the counter, it will increment any and
every time you edit/view (even in "preview"mode) the page.

You have the choices of several graphic counters that frontpage provides, or
you can make your own numbers for the counter in an image editor. (just
specify the 'custom image' in the counter dialogue box).

All you need to do is make one image with the numbers 0-9. Make sure they
are evenly spaced because the counter webbot slices them up (somehow) and
knows which one to show as the counter total.

If you put it in a shared border or FP Include Page it will count each page that it appears on
separately.

I've never been able to figure out a good reason to put a hit counter on any
page, let alone a bunch of pages. Out of curiosity -- what is the need you are
addressing with all those hit counters?

I was wondering what good a "hit" counter is. Is there a "visit" counter that
increments once only for each time the page is opened?

Check with your web host for server stats.

I believe he stated that he didn't want to use a stats program. He needs to
check what his host offers as many hosts include a stats option for free.
